Assam Police arrested 2,688 people; seized 19,371 vehicles for violating lockdown norms

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police on stated it has arrested 2,688 people and seized 19,371 vehicles all across the State since March 24, for violating the lockdown norms.

A total fine of Rs. 1,22,10,000 has been realized so far. In its daily report on the lockdown, the Assam Police mentioned that 1,328 cases have been registered in connection with 2,208 incidents since the beginning of the lockdown. Out of the 19,371 vehicles, 17,552 are two wheelers, 246 are three wheelers and 1,542 are four wheelers.

Besides the vehicles, 20 country boats, 17 trucks and 10 tractors have been seized from various parts of the State.

The State police is also taking a proactive stand against fake news. Till Friday, 85 cases have been registered for spreading fake news/rumour on social media related to COVID-19. A total of 45 people have been registered in this regard. A total of 22 containment orders have also been issued so far.
