GUWAHATI: After not achieving the desired results in the polls, the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) is preparing to fight the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) elections.

In this regard, the APPC has constituted two committees that will undertake various works for the party given the elections.

The first committee will visit the wards and search prospecting candidates for the election by consulting with the BCC, ward committees and cross-section of the public. It will shortlist at least three prospecting candidates against each ward. Later, the APCC will finalize the list.

While ex-MP Dwijen Sarma will be the chairman of the committee, APCC secretary Ramanna Baruah will be the convener. Among other members of the committee include – ex-Minister Akon Bora, APCC general secretary Bobbeeta Sharma, spokesperson Abhijit Mazumder, secretary Nasir Khan, Ashmi Bordoloi, Mira Borthakur and Bhaba Bora.

The second committee will visit the GMC wards and interact with the ward committee, Congress workers, cross-section of the public of the ward and identify the major issues, problems confronted by the residents. The committee will prepare a list of the major issues and suggest remedial measures in the form of a manifesto.

Kushal Sharma has been appointed as the chairman of the committee and Arup Jyoti Bhuyan will be the convener.

Among other members include – APCC secretary Hukum Chand Ali Boxi, Gopal Sarma, Bandeep Dutta, Swapan Das, and Bhawani Kalita.
