GUWAHATI: Akash Choudhury, the main accused in the double murder that had taken place on October 25 in Beltola, Chandanagar, was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Monday for hearing. While talking to media persons after the hearing, Akash Choudhury made a startling statement.

Choudhury claimed that the police had tortured him to make him confess to the double murder. "I did not kill them, I swear on my child. The police kept beating me and forced me to confess to the crime," he told media persons. On October 29, police said that during interrogation in Basistha Police Station, Akash Choudhury had confessed that he had killed the elderly couple – Nani Gopal Barua and his wife Mina Barua. Akash's wife Putu Das was also interrogated by police.

Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta had then told media persons, "Akash Choudhury has confessed to killing the elderly couple. For the sake of investigation, we are not revealing the motive of the double murder now. Once we are through with our investigation and all formalities are completed, we will disclose the motive." He further said, "The investigation is being carried out scientifically. The stone grinder used in the murder has been sent for forensic testing."

But with Akash Choudhury now claiming that he had been pressured to confess, the double murder case has taken a new turn.
