GUWAHATI: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bhabesh Kalita said on Friday that his party does politics on the plank of development at the national and State level.

Talking to The Sentinel, Kalita said that the development graph of the State took an upward turn after the BJP came to power at Dispur. That is the reason why the people of Assam have reposed faith in the BJP and its allies in successive elections since then, he said.

The State BJP president further said that he is hopeful that the BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will win all 60 wards in the forthcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election, which is to be held on April 22. Three candidates of the BJP have already won uncontested, he pointed out.

It may be mentioned that the BJP had decided to contest in 53 wards, leaving seven wards for the AGP.

Referring to speculation regarding one MLA of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) joining the Himanta Biswa Sarma Cabinet, Kalita said that ministry reshuffle or ministry expansion is totally the prerogative of the Chief Minister. However, for the greater interest of the BTR, the BJP is in favour of carrying together all sections of people in the journey of development.
