Bhangagarh Police arrested one person for assaulting nurse and journalist

GUWAHATI: The Bhangagarh Police has arrested a youth named Pankaj Baishya for assaulting a nurse and a person on the premises of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday evening.

Accordingly to reports, the victim person who is a journalist went to the hospital to pick his wife who works as a nurse. He heard the hue and cry of the victim nurse while she was being assaulted by Baishya at the GMCH complex. The accused also assaulted him with a sharp object after he tried to prevent the assault.

The journalist received 34 stitches and the nurse also received injuries on her head. Both of them are out of danger, said the police.

In this regard, two cases have been registered at the Bhangagarh PS. One by the journalist's wife under case no. 555/20 u/s 353/326/307 IPC and the other by the victim nurse - 556/20 u/s 353/326/307/506 IPC.

The accused was presented before the CJM Court on Tuesday and he has been sent to judicial custody. The police said Baishya is a resident of Jorhat and the nurse is a resident of Dibrugarh. Both of them were working at the Jorhat Medical College and four months ago she joined the GMCH as a GNM nurse.
