GUWAHATI: A Bill was tabled in the Assam Legislative Assembly on the first day of the Budget session on Monday to enable the State Government to create new municipal corporations in the State.

At present, a municipal corporation exists only in Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that Dispur had recently taken a policy decision to upgrade the Silchar and Dibrugarh municipality boards to municipal corporations.

The Bill tabled today in House is titled 'The Assam Municipal Corporation Bill, 2022'.

Meanwhile, some other Bills were also tabled in the House today. These include 'The Assam State Commission for Minorities (Amendment) Bill, 2022'; 'The Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022'; 'The Assam Taxation (Liquidation of Arrear Dues) (Amendment) Bill, 2022; 'The Assam Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2022'; 'The Assam Borstal Institution (Repealing) Bill, 2022'; 'The Assam Children (Repealing) Bill, 2022'; 'The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022'; 'The Assam Repealing Bill, 2022'; and 'The Assam Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
