GUWAHATI, Jan 17: The ruling BJP and the AGP are conducting surveys in different Assembly constituencies to study present positions of the parties, organizational setup and winning possibilities of their candidates in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The BJP is quite ahead of its ally AGP in terms of conducting surveys. The BJP is making multiple surveys which include assessment of performance of sitting MLAs and their winning prospects. The BJP is also conducting a survey on demographic patterns of many Assembly constituencies in middle and lower Assam which could influence and swing votes.

The results of the surveys will be the basis of the seat-sharing formula of the BJP-AGP which will contest the Assembly elections together. In the last Assembly elections held in 2016 the BJP had left 24 Assembly seats for the AGP and the latter managed to win 14 seats. Discussions on the surveys will be held in February.
