GUWAHATI: The State BJP’s formation of new committees of the party will start from September 2019. Booth, madal, district and state committees will be formed afresh.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, while addressing the press on Wednesday at the State BJP headquarters, said that the drive is being launched not just in Assam but all over India. The BJP has appointed Radha Mohan Singh as the party’s National Election in-charge and on Wednesday, State BJP appointed Minister Bhabesh Kalita as the State Election in-charge, who will be assisted by four co in-charge members. These members will supervise the entire new committee formation drive in the State.

Further, the Mandal Committees of the BJP will double in number, wherein addition to the previous 303 members the number will be increased to 600 members. A single mandal will cover 10 panchayats.

On August 2, the notification will be issued by the party informing the decision and on the same day, a meeting will be convened of the Mandal and local bodies at GMCH auditorium in the city. Ex Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan will grace the occasion and the Mandal Committee will be inaugurated.

BJP’s new membership drive, which was stalled due to the flood situation in the State, has resumed. Dass said that the members will be increased from previous 29 lakh to 40 lakh, which would mean that 11 lakh new members will be enrolled. “We will cross even the 40 lakh target and actually recruit more members. However, new online membership registration after August 11 will not be able to contest in party elections. From September, each active members will have to create 25 new members,” Dass said.

Dass also confirmed that the preparations for the upcoming by-elections in four Assembly constituencies in the State, which were halted due to floods, will resume now that the flood waters have receded. “From Thursday, the election activities will recommence and for each LAC of Sonari, Ratabari, Rangapara and Jania, an election sub-committee is formed. For Sonari, MLA Jogen Mohan has been chosen as coordinator with an 11-member committee.
