GUWAHATI: Almost 1,000 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters blocked the National Highway-37 on Sunday in protest against the BJP leaving the Guwahati West Vidhan Sabha seat to Ramendra Narayan Kalita of the AGP.
Guwahati District Committee secretary of BJP Boleswar Rongpi said, "The organization base of the BJP is very strong in West Guwahati Legislative Assembly Council (LAC). If the ticket for this constituency is not given to a BJP candidate, we will resort to a mass agitation in the LAC."
However, the officer-in-charge of Azara Police Station Utpal Changmai and CRPF personnel could clear the road blockade imposed by the aggrieved BJP protesters.
