Cache of drugs seized from truck; two from Thoubal District detained in Jorabat

GUWAHATI: Acting on a tipoff about the shipment of a drug consignment from Manipur, a 'Naka' ( a system of patrolling streets by use of checkpoints) was placed at Jorabat under Jorabat Out Post of Basistha PS (Police Station) in the early morning from around 4:30 am on Thursday.

During the checking, when a Truck (MN 04 9866) was checked thoroughly at about 6 am; the police personnel recovered 60 packets of suspected heroin from the vehicle. The items weighing about 660 grams were packed in plastic soap cases. The narcotics had been kept concealed inside the engine cover of the vehicle, informed Police sources.

The joint team of Basistha PS and Jorabat OP also recovered Rs 45,000 from the driver along with two mobile phones.

The vehicle driver and another person travelling in the vehicle were detained in this connection.

The driver of the truck has been identified as M.D. Warish alias Abhoy (26 years) of Thoubal District in Manipur. The other detained person, Jennyson Tayenjam, 20 is also of the same district.

The narcotics have been seized as per the procedure. A Case (1533/21) has been registered at Basistha Police Station. Further investigation is underway to determine the linkages.
