STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Veterinary minister Atul Bora announced that an ambulance for livestock will soon be available for service that will tend to the needs of cattle in crisis.

Addressing the press at Janata Bhawan in Dispur on Friday, Bora said, “Like the 108 ambulance service in the State, we have launched a pilot project where six livestock ambulances will be introduced. It is a fairly new project for the State. The ambulances will also have doctors and other staff to aid cattle in distress.”

Bora further informed that the livestock ambulances will service the interior locations, where access to veterinary doctors is not easy. If the pilot project is successful then it will be implemented in each district of the State.

“Presently in Assam, livestock census is being done. The all India result will be declared by government of India on a later date,” said Bora.

The National Livestock and Poultry Show – 2019, Assam, will be organized by Animal Husbandary & Veterinary Department, Assam & Assam Livestock & Poultry Corporation from November 7 to 10, at the College of Veterinary Science Playground, Khanapara. The show will hold workshops and seminars and will include training sessions, buyers-sellers meet, and several other programs where Cabinet Minister Giriraj Singh, the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, will also be present.

“The show was last held on 1995 and is being organized again after 25 years. 400 farmers will participate in the programme. The event will also showcase the potential of Northeast in terms of animal husbandry,” said Atul Bora.
