Check-gates, Syndicates are Congress’ Signature: BJP Assam Pradesh

GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that check-gates and syndicates are essentially the Congress’ signature, and soon after coming to power at Dispur the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government has been acting tough against the corrupt.

The Congress has been alleging the involvement of the State government in various syndicates in the State. Reacting to the allegations, the State BJP has made such a statement.

Addressing a press conference at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati on Monday, State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami said: “Ever since coming to power at Dispur, the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government has been acting tough against corruption and syndicates in the State. From June 1, 2016 to September 21, 2019 as many as 303 cases have been registered against illegal businessmen. During the period as many as 602 coal-laden vehicles have been seized, besides the seizure of 975.884 metric tonnes of coal. This apart, as many as 499 people have been arrested for their connection with the illegal business of coal.”

On supari syndicate in the State during the period, Goswami said: “As many as 23 cases have been registered against supari syndicate, besides the seizure of 63 trucks and 5,00,354 kg of supari (betel nut) and the arrest of 39 illegal supari traders.”

On smuggling of cattle during the period, Goswami said: “As many as 184 vehicles and 9,599 cattle have been seized, besides the arrest 846 cattle smugglers, leading to the registration of 598 cases against them.”

On the smuggling of chemical fertilizer during the period, Goswami said: “As many as 43 vehicles and 4,04,635 kg fertilizer have been seized, leading to the arrest of 26 people and registration of 26 cases.”

Goswami said that during the Congress regime in the State no such action was taken.

Another State BJP spokesperson, Subhas Dutta, said: “The revenue collection has been up now because of the tough measures taken by this government since 2016 in every department. The State Finance Department collected revenues amounting to Rs 10293.75 crore in fiscal 2016-17, Rs 12055.78 crore in fiscal 2017-18 and Rs 13973.01 crore in 2018-19. Revenues collected by the Transport department during the period in the State are Rs 546.65 crore in 2016-17, Rs 675.41 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 737.55 crore in 2018-19. Likewise, the revenues collected by Mines and Mineral Department in the State during the period are Rs 1657.34 crore in 2016-17, Rs 1913.09 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 2562.80 crore in 2018-19. The rise in revenue collection corroborates the government acting tough against corruption.”
