 'Strive to achieve the target of 3 lakh vaccinations daily'

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday held a meeting with Health Department at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan and reviewed the preparation for the enhanced COVID vaccination campaign to start from June 21 in the State along with the whole country.

He directed to achieve the target of 3 lakh daily vaccinations from June 21 to June 30 on mission mode. He directed that all guardian ministers and secretaries must visit their respective districts to ensure increased vaccination. He directed targeting the vulnerable pockets like tea garden areas to widen vaccination coverage.

It is to be mentioned that the central government will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all adults from June 21. The central government will now buy 75% of the total production of the vaccine producers and provide it to the states free of cost. Under this initiative, Assam will receive 11 lakh vaccine doses in the next few days.

Instructing the department to maximise publicity to bring the people to vaccination centres in large numbers, the Chief Minister said that IEC materials must be published in all major local languages of the state apart from Assamese to generate awareness. He also stressed the importance to make people aware of the on-the-spot registration facility at the vaccine centres along with online registration.

The Chief Minister also directed to engage a mobile team of doctors to oversee vaccination and said that hospitals near vaccination centres must be open to provide medical services to general patients till the close of daily vaccination.

Saying that Assam must set an example in the mega vaccination campaign by performing well to achieve the target, the Chief Minister directed the department to hold Video Conferences with DCs regularly in the next couple of days to iron out issues and fine-tune preparations.
