GUWAHATI: ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ rally was organized by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) in Assam amidst various programmes held by Indian National Congress (INC) in different parts of the country. This was a protest against the central government’s silence over Adani row. The Congress party evidently seeks answers from the BJP led government on its stand on the Adani row.

In Guwahati, ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ rally was organized from Digholi Pukhuri to Raj Bhavan where both the Congress leaders and supporters had gathered. But a heavy police force was deployed who installed barricades to stop the protestors.

APCC working president cum MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar communicated to the media, “We were not allowed to proceed the march toward Raj Bhavan. The police prevented us from leaving the Assembly site. They detained us to Latashil Police Station, and later allowed us to leave.”

Addressing the gathering, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah said, “The main motive of our protest is to protect the savings of the people who have invested with SBI and LIC. But the BJP led government is determined to stream the investment with SBI and LIC into a company run by Adani in spite of knowing the fact that the money is hard earned by people. The two institutions now reveal insecurity to the depositors.”

Further, Borah added, “The Congress only made a call for inquiry of the Adani row through the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). But Congress MPs were not allowed to raise Adani issue in the parliament. The central government has refused to conduct this inquiry through the JPC, which propelled us to organize this protest rally.”

Many Congress MLAs, former MLAs and senior leaders took part in the protest rally.
