GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asom Nirman Sramik Union protested at the Labour Commissioner's Office on Thursday. Protestors sent a memorandum to the member secretary of the Assam Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board.

According to the sources, in the memorandum they stated that there are various schemes for the registered labourers, but the benefits of the schemes have not been gained or availed of by the labourers. In the last meeting of the welfare board, the board members showed resentment for not clearing the area due to the labourers before Rongali Bihu. Still, the board has not taken any decision regarding it. Those construction workers who should be getting pensions have not received them yet, as the welfare board has to give them a certificate related to it, which they have not given.

Also, there are no employees of the Assam Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board in the labour offices in Kamrup (M) and Chayygaon in Kamrup, which has caused great problems for the labourers and led to their asking for immediate and necessary steps.
