Contractual teachers of Assam deprived of pay

GUWAHATI: Around 4,000 additional contractual high school teachers of Assam had to celebrate the Magh Bihu festivities without having received their salaries for the months of November and December, 2021.

According to one of the deprived teachers, they had been appointed in as far as back as 2010 and they have been receiving salaries as per the Government's Rule of Pay (ROP) since July 1, 2020. However, he said, they have never received their salaries on time.

He further informed that the additional contractual high school teachers have also not received their arrear dues as yet.

The teacher complained that the irregularity in payment is due to the fact that their salaries are being paid under the Ceiling system instead of being paid through the Treasury office.
