GUWAHATI: The Under Graduate (UG) 1st semester students of the Cotton University on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the varsity's Registrar Office and at the main gate opposing the conduct of offline examinations.

On April 5, the Cotton University authorities issued a notice that the UG 1st semester examinations will be conducted from April 23 in offline mode. The students have demanded the authorities to either postpone the examinations or conduct them in online mode.

In this regard, they submitted a memorandum to the CU authorities on Monday (April 19). However, the authorities have not yet taken any decision regarding the students' demands.

The students have stated in the memorandum that many of the students have travelled during the occasion of Rongali Bihu where they might have been infected by the coronavirus during the journey.

"Many of the students who even live in Guwahati or nearby places need to travel long distances in public transport and there is a very high possibility that they might get infected during the commotion. We are really afraid to appear for the offline examination from April 23. If by the end of the 1st day of examination, a lot of students get infected, the situation will turn worse," the memorandum stated.
