GUWAHATI: Many a conscious resident of the city has urged Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha to ensure stringent checking of COVID-19 vaccination certificates of people who throng the daily, weekly and bi-weekly markets here.

It has been observed over the past few days that there is no mechanism in place to check whether customers and irregular vendors at these markets are double-vaccinated or not.

Talking to The Sentinel on Sunday, an elderly customer at the Beltola bazar here said: "Who knows which person here is double-vaccinated and who is not. The administration should send special teams to these markets for proper scrutiny of each individual's vaccination status."

A vegetable vendor at the market stated that it was their duty to check the vaccination status of customers. He observed that some customers even do not wear masks, but the vendors remain mum for fear of starting an altercation.

It may be mentioned that the Kamrup (M) administration has issued several COVID-19-related advisories in recent days in view of the sudden increase in the number of pandemic victims in the city and elsewhere.
