GUWAHATI: The members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest on Tuesday against the inflation of prices of several essential commodities. Phanidhar Das, the secretary of the Kamrup (M)district unit of the CPI, led this protest in Guwahati, an event that was attended by over fifty members of the organisation. The protesters protested against the rise in the prices of several commodities, including petrol, diesel, life-saving medicines, construction materials, electricity, and many more. They mentioned that the ruling party had made several promises at the time of the elections, but now all of these have been proven to be fake.

They also called out the comments made by members of the ruling party regarding the rise in prices of several essential commodities and said that they were trying to hide their failure regarding their inability to control the same problem. And the citizens are forced to think that the government is working for the major business houses and not the general public.

At the end of the protest, they placed several demands in front of the government. Some of them included bringing down the prices of essential commodities, strengthening the public distribution system, bringing petroleum products under the ambit of GST, stopping the use of smart meters for electrical supply, and several others. They also gave a memorandum to the chief minister of the state mentioning these demands via the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan District.
