Crime against women highest in Assam: National Crime Records Bureau

GUWAHATI: Assam recorded the highest number of cases against women in the year 2018. This was revealed in the recently released data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

As per the report, in 2018, Assam stood at 166.9% for 2018, almost three times the national average rate of 58.5%. Assam was followed by Delhi at 149.6 %. In 2017, the rate of crime against women was 143.3% against a national figure of 57.9%. Delhi came second with a rate of 133.3% followed by Telangana with 94.7 % and Odisha with 94.5%. Assam recorded a total of 71,676 cases of crimes against women from the year 2016 to 2018. As per the report, 20896 cases were recorded in in 2016. The state has seen a constant surge in the cases of crimes against women and in 2017, 23,082 cases were recorded. The numbers further increase to 27,728 cases in 2018.
