GUWAHATI: The Chiriyakhana Suraksha Mancha (CSM) has demanded the State government to spell out the law under which it exchanged two panthers of the Assam State Zoo with the Ambani Zoo in Gujarat on February 12.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday, CSM general secretary Rajkumar Baishya questioned the government as to why no investigation has been initiated against DFO Tejas Mariswamy after reptile carcasses were found in the house of Dr. Jayaditya Purukasthya, who was associated to the construction of snake dens in the Zoo.

"Why no investigation has been conducted over the death of hundreds of zoo animals in the past three years?" Questioned Baishya.

"The Mancha underlined that according to an RTI application, the State zoo authorities provide less amount of food to the animals. Why has the government not taken any action over the matter?" He added.

The CSM also wanted to know as to why the State Zoo Hospital is not functional.

"If Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have guts they should answer all our questions publicly," Baishya stated.

Lastly, Baishya alleged that the Zoo authorities have filed an FIR against the CSM instead of the DFO after they questioned the former over the various anomalies that were revealed through the RTI.
