Durga Puja turns fatal in Guwahati's Noonmati after retd ASTC official committed suicide

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a retired ASTC official allegedly committed suicide at his own bedroom in Noonmati area of Guwahati in the wee hours on the day of Maha Navami.

As per reports, the retired ASTC official was identified as Anil Chandra Kalita (62) is the resident of Gopal Nagar in Noonmati.

Local people in the area claimed that the person was going through the worst phase of his life due to poor financial conditions. Reportedly, he was unable to pay the debts and also failed to provide better education to his children for the last couple of years.

Notably, the poor retired ASTC official didn't receive his retirement beneficiaries after his retirement. It may be mentioned that Kalita was retired in the year 2017.

Meanwhile, a case was lodged in the connection to the matter at Noonmati Police Station by the family members of the deceased ASTC official and the body of deceased Kalita was sent for post mortem.

Further police investigation is on.

Notably, reports also state that Biswajit had killed his previous wife with a sharp machete under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, police had sent both the bodies to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for post mortem.
