GUWAHATI: GRP personnel arrested two persons - Md Dilsad and Md Khalif, both hailing from UP - from the Kamakhya Railway Station at Maligaon here today. The GRP personnel seized a statue of Jesus Christ made of fake gold, weighing 1.790 kg. The two were waiting to board the Anand Behar Express. The duo brought the statue from 18 Mile in Tezpur. The smuggling of gold, also fake, takes place through Guwahati. And today's seizure of fake gold from this duo has proved it again.

Smugglers generally make idols and other figures that are common in temples to impress their prospective buyers on the pretext of the gold being of the ancient age when fakery was not even prevalent.
