GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) on Friday stated that the '5 guarantee-campaign' of the Congress party is a 'political joke'.

The APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) recently launched the campaign through which it is giving 'guarantees' which will be fulfilled if it forms the next government in the State.

The five guarantees of the campaign are – law against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), creation of five lakh government jobs, raising the daily wage of tea workers to Rs 365, free electricity up to 200 units per household, and Rs 2,000 as monthly income support to all homemakers.

Addressing a press meet here, State BJP spokesperson Pabitra Margherita vehemently criticized the APCC's campaign.

"People of Assam know that the Congress' five guarantees are illusory. It has been only giving fake promises from the last 60 years. During the Congress regime, it failed to keep its promises," said Margherita.

Slamming, AICC (All India Congress Committee) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's recent visit to the tea garden areas, Margherita alleged that the people from the tea community were highly exploited during the Congress regime.

"The Congress only used the tea tribes as a vote bank. However, during the last five years, the BJP has done all-round development in the tea garden areas. It has been able to provide a distinguished identity to the tea community by making developments in — health, education, economic, and infrastructural sectors," Margherita stressed.

He slammed the Congress' 'guarantee' of bringing a law against the CAA. Margherita underlined that the Act has already been passed in the Parliament and the Congress cannot scrap it.

"The Congress cannot abolish the CAA as it has only 51 members in the Lok Sabha while the BJP has 302 members. The Congress' stand on the CAA is highly questionable in both Barak and Brahamaputra valleys. While it supports the CAA in the Barak Valley, it opposes it in the Brahmaputra Valley," Margherita pointed out.

Further, he said, "The Congress is giving guarantee of increasing the daily wages of the tea workers to Rs 365. During the Congress regime, the daily wage of the tea workers was Rs 137. After the BJP came to power, the wages were increased to Rs 217."

He asserted that the BJP government implemented various schemes to engage the unemployed youths.

"Apart from providing government jobs to eligible youths in various departments, the BJP made scores of youths self-dependent through different schemes," Margherita added.
