GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Sunday alleged that Dispur has failed to provide adequate relief materials to the flood affected people in the State.

A press communiqué issued by AASU president-in-charge and general secretary-in-charge Chittranjan Basumatary and Duldul Barkatoki respectively, stated that at a time when the flood is causing massive devastation, the State Government has failed to provide basic minimum relief to many flood-ravaged areas. Lack of sincerity and preparedness of the State administration has deprived many flood-affected people without food, pure drinking water and other relief materials, the statement said.

The AASU has also expressed shock as to why the Centre has not yet announced special package for flood affected people. Barkatoki said it is high time Dispur realized the gravity of the flood situation in the State and used all its resources to reach out each and every flood affected people. He said the post-flood scenario will be more critical as there is every chance of outbreak of epidemics. “Effective rehabilitation of flood victims will be very crucial,” he said.

The AASU leaders said members of the union have been activated across the State to provide maximum relief to affected people.
