Foreign cigarettes worth Rs 7 lakh seized in Jorabat

GUWAHATI: Based on source information, Jorbat police out post in-charge and his team intercepted an Innova vehicle bearing registration number AS 01EW 2111 and during search, 16 cartons of ESSE Special Gold cigarettes containing 50 packets in each carton, were found.

The cigarettes had been produced under the authority of KT&G –a global tobacco company. The net market value of the cigarettes is around Rs 7 lakh.

As there were no proper documents against the items, all were seized as per law. Two persons – Bakul Ramchiary and Manoj Dey of Kahilipara –who were in vehicle, have been picked up for examination. "Preliminary investigation reveals that the cigarettes were being brought from Byrnihat, Meghalaya to Guwahati. Further necessary legal actions are being taken," said police sources.
