Gauhati University celebrates World Bicycle Day at university campus

GUWAHATI: Gauhati University celebrated world Bicycle Day today at the university campus along with the rest of the globe.

Flagging off the bicycle rally, GU Registrar Dr Hemanta Kr Nath told that the university fraternity should promote bicycles in their day-to-day life to maintain a healthy lifestyle and fitness body. To combat environmental pollution and global warming use of the bicycle is of utmost importance. Coordinator of the Program Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, DSW and Programme coordinator, GU NSS Cell highlighted different benefits of cycling and mentioned that this programme has been done as per direction from UGC and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, New Delhi.

In a message, GU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique congratulated all the participants who took part in the rally and appealed to create a bicycle user environment on the campus. Bicycle rally starts at the University campus to Airport to Rani Gate and Azara to the GU campus which completes 25 km. Gauhati University Faculty members, officers, PGSU members, NSS volunteers and students took part in the rally, a press release said.
