GMC Conducts Raid In Paltanbazar, Two Held For Illegally Collecting Parking Fees

Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) along with Assam police on Wednesday took on brokers for illegally collecting money in the name of tax in the parking slots.

The GMC detained two brokers from the city identified as Chanakya Pathak and Bablu Rai as they were involved in collecting money from the people in Paltanbazar.

According to police, these brokers were collecting money by producing old municipal documents.

Meanwhile, these brokers have been taken to the Paltanbazar police station for further enquiry.

In this regard, GMC has issued an order stating that shopping malls, markets places that are not under the authority of GMC cannot collect illegal fees for parking.

Notably, the GMC has made 43 parking places free for the people in the city.

According to GMC, they carried out this drive to create awareness among the people that such brokers cannot charge any amount in the name of parking.
