GUWAHATI: The City Police which has been probing the Rajkanya Baruah's hit-and-run case on Friday grilled GNRC neurosurgeon Dr Navanil Baruah for more than six hours. However, Dr Baruah is yet to be arrested, a senior police official here said. The police had served notices to Dr Navanil Barua who is a senior doctor of the hospital for admitting the model who feigned as unwell in the hospital.

During interrogation, Dr Baruah confessed that Rajkanya Baruah had blackmailed him by sending messages in his WhatsApp that she would commit suicide in the hospital verandah if she was not shifted to ICU.

Dispur police station campus witnessed a chaotic situation when Dr Baruah was brought for interrogation. The family members of two victims rushed to the police station campus alleging that the senior doctor has provided treatment to the patients only for money. One of the victim's family alleged that the sole bread earner of the family had to lose his eyesight due to an operation conducted by Dr Baruah.

Another victim's family alleged that Dr Baruah had kept the victim in the hospital even after his death.

Meanwhile, the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup Metro on Friday has sent model Rajkanya Baruah to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier in the morning hours, accused Rajkanya Baruah was taken to Dispur PHC for a medical checkup and accordingly, she was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup Metro after her one-day police remand which ended on Friday.

The court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the accused and ordered seizure and cancellation of the driving license of Rajkanya Baruah with immediate effect.
