Guwahati: The Deputy Commissioner of Police of East Guwahati has been issued a show-cause notice for his alleged negligence in the Rajakanya Baruah car accident case in which 9 labourers working for the Public Works Department were injured last week.

This development has come after it was found that the former Miss India finalist was granted bail just within a day of arrest on Saturday for an offence that was non-bailable.

The case took a new turn when the office of the Chief Minister ordered a proper inquiry into the matter after receiving much criticism from the public on several social media platforms.

On Wednesday, Baruah was rearrested from her residence and was sent to one-day police custody on Thursday.

Baruah's driving licence has been seized and the process of cancelling her licence has also been started by the Kamrup (M) District Transport Office.

The model has been booked under Sections 279, 294, 388 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the Assam police.

Rajkanya Barua, who is an event manager by profession, had hit 9 labourers in the Rukminigaon area of Guwahati on the night of October 1. She was found to be in an inebriated condition as she was driving back home after attending a party.

One of the PWD workers has reportedly lost his leg during the incident. All 9 labourers were immediately rushed to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
