GUWAHATI: In order to ease the traffic congestion, Guwahati will soon construct four new flyovers in the prime locations of the city.

The new flyovers will be constructed at National Highway 37 in Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra and Basistha Chariali.

Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari announced that Guwahati will soon have four new flyovers.

The National Highway Authority of India has initiated the action for constructing four new flyovers in the city.

This was announced by the minister at the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The minister also announced that the city will also have a 'Ring Road'. He further informed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will start 131 projects in the Northeast with an estimated cost of Rs. 84,193 crore.

Meanwhile, Assam PWD (Public Works Department) will be constructing a new flyover at the Zoo Road tri-junction in Guwahati. The department has already floated tenders for the project.

PWD sources said that the DPR (Detailed Project Report) has been finalized, adding that the estimated project cost is Rs 79 crore. The length of this proposed two-lane overbridge is about 580 metre.

Department sources added, "Once the project is completed, traffic jam will lessen at the Zoo Road Tinali (tri-junction). The foundation stone of the project is expected to be laid in the last part of this year. We hope to complete the flyover before the targeted completion period."
