Guwahati: Fake International Call Centre Busted In Hatigaon, 15 Arrested

Guwahati: A fake international call centre has been busted in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on the night of May 18.

Acting on a tipoff, the Guwahati police raided 'O.A Business Solution' for allegedly cheating US, UK and European citizens on the pretext of "selling technology".

However, the police have said that they are yet to ascertain the technology that the company tries to sell and added that the matter is being investigated.

Meanwhile, computers, hard drives and other documents were confiscated by the police from the premises.

The police have also arrested as many as 15 people in connection with this case.

Upon interrogation, it was disclosed that the company's headquarters is based in West Bengal.

The police went on to inform that an advertisement was recently put up by the company in OLX for recruiting more employees.

Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Debasish Saha, an absconding GST consultant who was on the run since mid of March was arrested by police at Sonapur in Kamrup (M) district on May 12.

Saha, who hails from Haflong in Dima Hasao was running a GST consulting firm under the name 'SD Associates' in Haflong town and he had over 100 clients under his consultancy.

A police complaint was lodged against him after several of his clients including contractors and businessmen noticed anomalies or mismatches in their GST accounts despite paying all liable fees to Saha.

He was earlier detained by the police back in March after his clients compelled the police to intervene in the matter. However, he was later released after assuring his clients that he will clear all the anomalies.

However, the conman did not stay true to his words and he disappeared from the town along with his family a few days later. This clearly did not go down well with his clients, who were furious at him. They responded by filing a police complaint against him at Haflong police station on 5th March.

Saha had been booked at Haflong P.S case no. 21/22 under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
