GUWAHATI: The Assam State Information Commission (ASIC) has observed that none of the mobile service providers took any permission from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to install their signals towers on private residential land as well rooftops of buildings. The GMC is also not getting any revenue from the existing mobile towers set up at private lands and residential buildings that fall within the corporation’s area. The ASIC’s observation came during a recent hearing of a case bearing No. KP (M)138/2018 on guidelines of installing mobile towers. The GMC has expressed before the commission that it is completely clueless as to who is authorized to issue permission to install mobile towers in the city. The GMC is yet to receive responses about its queries on mobile tower installation from the concerned departments of State Government, Kamrup Metropolitan district administration and BSNL.
