GUWAHATI: In a bid to keep a check on the rising business of flesh trade in Assam, the cyber cell of the Assam Police is continuously monitoring social media sites in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a recent tweet, the Guwahati Police said, "With ref to the appearance of some twitter handles & websites claiming to provide escorts in Guwahati and other cities of Assam. The matter is under investigation and leads unearthed in the matter point to elements outside the State. We expect to close in on the culprits soon."

Providing escort services over the social media is trending in the state as the perpetrators have a much higher reachability rather than traditional methods. The Assam police has been active in keeping tabs on such kind on unscrupulous activities since some time.

Earlier in April, the local people of Bahadur Chariali busted a prostitution racket near Railway Colony and nabbed five persons, including three women, on Monday who were later handed over to Bordubi police in Tinsukia district. The police, after registering a case (68/2021), forwarded them to judicial custody. The accused five persons have been identified as Radhika Baruah (40) of Bahadur Chariali's Railway Colony, Priyanka Devi (30) of HijuguriTinsukia, Amoni Munda (26) of Bordubi, Jaipal Singh (26) of Uttar Pradesh and Rajkamal Gohain (48) of Jaipur in Dibrugarh district.

During October last year, Four minor girls belonging to the religious minority community in Darrang district were sold at a total amount of Rs 1 lakh to a prostitution racket in Haryana by one NilimaKhatun (28) of village Ghatpara under Dalgaon Police station in Darrang district. However, Darrang Police, under the command of Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan, on Friday afternoon successfully recovered all the four minor girls and arrested the accused NilimaKhatun from Nathupur Police Station area in Gurugram, Haryana.

Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan on receipt of information about the four minor girls missing, made communication with higher officials of Assam Police and after obtaining the permission, entrusted Officer in-charge of Shyampur Police Station, Sub Inspector DantejitDeuri to rescue the missing girls. Sub-Inspector Deuri, in connection with Shyampur Police Station case number 103/2020 under section 366/372 of Indian Penal Code, rushed to Haryana on Thursday evening and with the help of the officials of Nathupur Police Station, finally rescued all the minor girls from a brothel and arrested the accused, Nilima Khatun.
