Guwahati Police Crack Down on Snatchers, 11 Arrested

In the backdrop of few incidents of mobile snatching and burglary cases, a massive drive has been launched to nab the snatchers and burglars.

GUWAHATI: In the backdrop of few incidents of mobile snatching and burglary cases, a massive drive has been launched to nab the snatchers and burglars. Multiple teams were formed and various hideouts and rented houses of the probable suspects were raided in the last two days. On Tuesday, the Dispur Police arrested 10 thieves during different operations conducted across the city. Most of the arrested snatchers and burglars are from Dhubri, Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Kamrup (R), Goalpara, and Kamrup (M) districts. They live either in rented houses or take shelter in under construction/abandoned buildings, the police said.

The arrests were made after operations conducted in Six Mile, Downtown, among other areas in connection to the following cases — 2725/21 U/S 457/380 IPC and 1996/2021 u/s 380 IPC. The police have recovered two mobile phones, one scooty, one e- rickshaw with one iron rod during the raids.

The arrested persons have been identified as — Mahidul Ali (28) from Beltola in Guwahati, Hasan Ali (27) from Goroimari in Kamrup (R), Nayan Das (27) from Gauripur in Dhubri, Dharani Das(22) from Gauripur, Noor Hussain (24) from Goroimari, Jan Ali (22) from Sarthebari in Barpeta, Mir Hussain (26) from Sarthebari, Biki Ali (20) from Chhaygaon, Rajesh Sahu (21) from South Sarania in Guwahati, and Umananda Das (19) from Hajo in Kamrup (R).

It is to be noted that as many as 11 thieves were arrested by the Dispur Police on Monday.
