Guwahati: Ahead of the demolition of MLA hostels, the Principal Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly, has ordered to disconnect electricity and water supply of the MLA hostel in Guwahati.

In this regard, the Principal Secretary has shot a letter to the MLAs who are about to vacate the hostels following the order dated July 25.

''Kindly refer to our earlier letter No. LAH.21/2021/106 dated 28.04.2022, LAH (N) 4/961894 dated 7 May 2022, and LAPSY.13/2022/1154 dated 30.05.2022 wherein you were requested to vacate your quarter by 20' July 2022,'' the order read.

''In this regard, it is informed that on and from 1st August 2022, the Hostel will be dismantled and for that electrical power and water supply will be disconnected on 31st July 2022 midnight,'' it added.

The MLAs were asked to vacate the hostel by July 20, however, the orders were not followed.

Notably, all the old quarters, cottages, and hostels of legislators are about to be demolished so that new residential buildings can be built there.

The MLAs will be given a sum of Rs 50,000 as house rent allowance till the new buildings are constructed.
