GUWAHATI: Every city dweller wishes to get rid of artificial floods during the monsoons. But this year too, their wishes don't seem to be granted. This is because the government has failed to deliver its promise to solve the issue of artificial floods before 2016 Assembly Elections.

Amidst the stressful situation that has occurred due to COVID-19 pandemic and flood, many areas of the city are currently under logged water creating problems to the residents. In areas like Dwarkanagar, Chachal and Down Town, residents are struggling with water logged roads. The residents claimed that water has been logged in the roads for over four days leading to difficulties in commuting.

One passerby on the Dwarkanagar Road said that it has been years that the residents are bound to deal with such issues. "The administration doesn't pay any attention to it. The roads get logged with water after every splash of rain. It is disheartening to see that in a busy area like Down Town people have to go through such problems," he said.

In this regard, the PWD (Public Works Department) said, "Due to the rains, the Silsako Bill is taking a reverse flow due to excessive water. The water of the bill falls in the Brahmaputra river. As the water level of the Brahmaputra is rising rapidly, the sluice gate has to be closed for which the excessive water is unable to go out. If they open the sluice gate the situation will get worsened."

Besides Dwarkanagar and Chachal area, some areas near Rukminigaon are also under water. Residents expressed their disappointment and said that the political leaders come and visit the areas only during elections for their benefit and for the rest of the time the public had to deal with the problems alone.
