IIT Guwahati Sexual Assault Case: Gauhati High Court Order to Form New Investigation Team

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has issued an order to constitute a new investigation team to investigate the sexual assault case which occurred at IIT Guwahati (IIT-G) on March 28.

The three-member team will be headed by Rangia sub division SDPO Mrigakshi Deka. The other two members of the team will be selected by the Kamrup Superintendent of Police. The court has directed to complete the investigation within three months and if necessary the team can file a supplementary charge sheet.

According to reports, the victim, a student of IIT Guwahati, was subjected to sexual assault by certain fellow students of the institution on the night of March 28. The victim was later taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the early morning of March 29 in an unconscious state. Later, an FIR was registered as Amingaon P.S. Case No.53/2021 under Section 376 IPC on March 30.

On the other hand, the IIT-G l The IIT authorities thus formally lodged a Complaints as aforesaid which was duly acknowledged by the police and accordingly, an FIR being, North Guwahati Police Station Case No.55/2021 under Section 376 IPC was registered on 03.04.2021.
