GUWAHATI: In further exposures of the inter-State links among the drug cartels carrying on their very profitable but illegal transactions across the North East, a huge cache of heroin worth crores has been seized in Assam from a truck moving from Manipur. A woman drug supplier has also been held by the Guwahati police in Shillong, fuelling speculations of more revelations in the multi-billion-dollar narcotics trade in the Northeast alone

In both cases, successes have been achieved by the Special Squads of EGPD (East Guwahati Police District).

MEGHALAYA LINK: In the other breakthrough related to the recovery of 8,500 Yaba tablets on August 26, 2021, a woman was arrested in Shillong. This development further exposes the inter-State close links of drug cartels. The woman drug peddler was held in the course of a joint operation of the EGPD and the Meghalaya Police. She has been identified as Dimsiannem (33 years), wife of Imtiwapang Imsang. The couple lives in Madanrting Block F, Near Baptist Church under Madanrting Police Station in East Khasi Hills District in Meghalaya. The arrested woman drug peddler was brought to Bhangagarh Police Station. P{olice have seized three mobile phones and Rs 35,600 in cash from her possession.

DIMAPUR-MANIPUR CONNECTION: Meanwhile, based on an intelligence input, the search operation was led by the EGPD (East Guwahati Police District). The Police team recovered a huge cache of heroin worth crores from the truck in the Jorabat area on Thursday.

A thorough search of the vehicle, 205 soap cases containing heroin (of approximately 2.5 kg) were recovered from inside the oil tank.

The vehicle was also searched to find out any other possible hidden compartments.

The apprehended two persons have been identified as Dipak Sarma and Jamminlal. Dipak Sarma (40) is a son of (late) Narayan Sarma, 5th Mile, Singrijan, Dimapur; while Jamminlal is son of Saikhumang of Churchandpur, Molvom, in Manipur. Further investigation is going on.
