GUWAHATI: The IPDS (Integrated Power Development Scheme) of the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) has been running behind schedule in the State.

The IPDS was launched in 2017 in Assam with a view to strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution network in urban areas; metering of distribution transformers/feeders/consumers in the urban areas and IT enablement of the distribution sector and strengthening its distribution network. However, the Scheme has been running behind schedule now. The scheme was scheduled to be completed by March 2019. Taking the slow progress of the work into account, this daily did anticipate earlier that the scheme would fail to meet its completion schedule.

As many as 88 towns in 19 APDCL circles of the State were identified for the Central government scheme. According to APDCL officials, works of six circles – Sivasagar, Morigaon, Tezpur, Rangiya, Bongaigaon and Guwahati-II – have been complete as of now. Works of the remaining 13 circles are yet to be over even after the expiry of the scheduled date of completion. APDCL officials, however, claim that 74 per cent works of the remaining 13 circles has been over. They hope that the entire work of the scheme will be over by March 2020. According to them, Rs 224.73 crore of the Rs 691.66 crore sanctioned amount was disbursed by the Centre.
