GUWAHATI: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel nabbed a mobile phone thief in Guwahati Railway Station on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, RPF personnel were on duty at Guwahati Railway Station when they noticed that while train no. 05910 UP Avadh Assam Express was departing from the railway station, a boy got down from the running train in a suspicious manner. Immediately the boy was detained by the team and on being asked, he failed to produce any journey ticket or give any satisfactory reply to explain his presence in the railway station. On checking the boy, the police team found an Oppo Android mobile phone from his possession.

On being asked, he failed to open the pattern lock of the mobile phone. When interogated further, the boy admitted that he came to Guwahati by the 05910 UP Avadh Assam Express from New Bongaigaon station and while the train was moving between Kamakhya-Guwahati station, he had stolen the mobile phone from a passenger of a sleeper coach who was fast asleep.

The boy did not known his native place as he was a vagabond. As such, the boy was taken into custody and brought to RPF Post Guwahati along with the recovered mobile phone. After observing all formalities, the apprehended boy, along with the recovered mobile phone, were handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP) at Guwahati Railway Station for taking necessary legal action.

Accordingly, GRP registered a case vide no. 90/2021 U/S 379 IPC and forwarded the accused to the court of Juvenile Justice, Kamrup (M) as the accused is a juvenile. The owner of the recovered mobile phone has not been found as yet.
