GUWAHATI: Two businessmen of Dimapur who had been kidnapped on April 14, were rescued from Hatigaon in the city on Monday.

The two businessmen, Uttam Jaiswal and Kanhaiya Singh, who originally hail from Bihar, were allegedly kidnapped from the Paltan Bazar area in the city on April 14 by Abdul Faruk, a resident of Hatigaon. According to police sources, Faruk had kept the two businessmen locked in his house at Hatigaon. Besides allegedly beating them, Faruk had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from the families of the two businessmen for their safe release.

Based on secret inputs, Hatigaon Police rescued the two businessmen from Faruk’s house on Monday. Faruk is now absconding. However, police arrested his wife Oli Devi Nath as she was aware of the kidnapping. She was produced before the CJM court on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.

After getting rescued Uttam Jaiswal lodged an FIR at Hatigaon Police Station and based on the FIR, a case was registered (150/23 u/s 364 (A). Police investigation is on.

Sources said that there are cases registered against Faruk and he had been arrested earlier on drug peddling charges. Sources added that police suspect that Faruk had some business connections with the two businessmen.
