Lawless situation has continued for the last two and half years of this Government: Upamanyu Hazarika

Guwahati: Prabajan Virodhi Manch Convener and Senior Advocate Upamanyu Hazarika on Friday claimed that the lawless situation in the region has continued for the last two and half years under the BJP-led Government.

He further stated in a press statement that the Government has to take the blame for this since they have allowed such a situation to prevail. "The situation has deteriorated to worse in the last two months," he claims.

He also targeted the newly floated organisations which have cropped up recently in the state. “These organisations are engaged in hurling inciteful statements against various other organisations, thus resulting in a dual of provocative statements between organisations,” said Hazarika.

An accumulative result of this has led to the result of the brutal killings of the five linguistic minority people yesterday, claimed Hazarika.

He added, “This is a well-framed plan to push the public discourse in an entirely different direction from the actual issues.”

Hazarika also highlighting the key issues of the state stated that the primary concerns for the state and genuine citizens are the illegal immigrants whose names have entered in the NRC should be re-verified and removed. Further, the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 which endangers the future of the indigenous people of Assam should be opposed.

“At present, the discourse is moving towards a linguistic rift between communities, particularly between genuine Indian Citizens,” Hazarika added further.

Furthermore, he pointed out that such situations have previously occurred in the Tinsukia district, and even then the indigenous people had to suffer the most from the consequences.
