GUWAHATI: Twelve opposition political parties of the state are scheduled to hold a meeting at Hotel Lily in Guwahati on Thursday. The parties are likely to discuss the important topic of seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated to be held in the state in April-May of 2024, according to sources.

The twelve parties slated to participate in the meet are: Raijor Dal, CPI (M), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI, CPI (ML), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jatiya Dal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had drawn up a list of 84 probable candidates for the LS polls and the list has been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for approval. According to the APCC, a candidate's ability to win will not be the sole factor in deciding the candidature. Loyalty to the party leadership will be an added criterion for the final decision this time around, the APCC leadership had maintained.

The other opposition parties are not happy with the decision of the APCC to field candidates in all 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state and the matter is also likely to come up for discussion in the opposition parties' meet on Thursday, sources said.
