GUWAHATI: The two new foot overbridges constructed at Post Office and Walford here were opened for the public on Monday.

Lok Nirman Bibhag (LNB) Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the two foot overbridges and announced different projects that will be implemented in the days ahead. While the foot overbridge located at Post Office has been constructed at a sanctioned cost of Rs 9.88 crore, the one at Walford has been constructed with Rs 10.6 crore.

"Both the foot overbridges have CCTV cameras, automated elevators, and ramp approach for Divyangs and senior citizens," said Sarma during the inaugural ceremony. The Minister also announced that the bridge connecting Guwahati-North Guwahati will be open for public in 2023.

"It will be the most beautiful bridge that will tempt tourists," he underlined.

Further, he said the Supermarket Flyover will be open for public before Bohag Bihu.

"The new route to Kamakhya Mandir from Maligaon on the banks of the river Brahmaputra will be completed in the coming 15 days. On the other hand, a project to set up a second medical college in Guwahati has been planned by the department. Additionally, another project to construct a 5-km-long flyover from Guwahati Club to Noonmati has been taken up by the department," the Minister added while announcing about upcoming projects. It is to be mentioned that both the bridges have been completed six months ahead of schedule.

During the ceremony, two contractors namely Anil Das and Anupam Sarma, who executed the project of the two foot overbridges were felicitated by Sarma.

The Minister also announced that under the Asom Mala Scheme, 42 new routes will be constructed across the State. The scheme will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Dhekiajuli on February 7, he added.
