GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Labour & Employment, Rameshwar Teli on Saturday inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Guwahati Refinery, the first public sector refinery of the country, stated a press release.

Guwahati Refinery, known as the Gangotri of Indian Oil, was dedicated to the nation on 1st January, 1962 by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. According to the press release, Teli inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebrations by lighting a ceremonial lamp in the presence of Indian Oil Corporation Limited's Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya and Guwahati Refinery's Executive Director & Refinery Head SP Singh.

Addressing the audience which comprised Axam Xahitya Xabha President Dr. Kuladhar Saikia, former Executive Directors of Guwahati Refinery, Executive Director & Refinery Head of Bongaigaon Refinery, Indian Oil AOD, State Office, Guwahati-Siliguri Pipelines and the Indian Oil employees of Guwahati Refinery, the Minister expressed his happiness over Guwahati Refinery attaining this milestone and shared his vision for the Refinery, which he said symbolizes the nation's march towards indigenisation of refining technology. While sharing the historical background behind the construction of the Refinery in Guwahati and the sentiments that the people of the State associate with the Refinery, he further laid emphasis on taking Guwahati Refinery to greater heights of excellence with newer technologies and excellent performances. The Minister also shared his vision for all the three North-Eastern refineries of Indian Oil and urged the IOC-ians present on the occasion to put in their best efforts in making these refineries symbols of pride for the entire nation.

Teli handed over an audio series encapsulating the musical heritage of Assam, an initiative of Guwahati Refinery, to Dr. Kuladhar Saikia. The programme also witnessed handing over of cheques to the school authorities of Guwahati Refinery High School and Noonmati High School for carrying out infrastructure development in their respective schools. The Minister also handed over medical kits to around 15 students of the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) course sponsored by the Refinery under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and released a booklet covering various initiatives undertaken by the Refinery in recent years. The programme also witnessed the release of an audio-video version of the Guwahati Refinery song.
