Rameshwar Teli visits dairy farmers assaulted by miscreants in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: Minister of State in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Rameshwar Teli paid a visit to Charkholia Ramsing Sapori, located in the middle of the Brahmaputra River, on Monday after around 100 miscreants allegedly belonging to the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), a student body of the Mising community, assaulted several dairy farmers residing there and also torched their houses on October 19.

Rameshwar Teli announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh as compensation. Following the incident of arson and physical attack by sharp weapons after the farmers refused to concede to extortion demands, which even led to the death of a milkman named Murli Yadav, besides causing serious injuries to several others, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Dhrubajyoti Bora and ADC Dipuranjan Deka reached the site and started an inquiry. Around 10 miscreants have been identified by the team, but they were at large till the filing of this report.

President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Debabrata Saikia; Congress MLA of Mariani, Rupam Kurmi and Dibrugarh District Congress president Etuwa Munda, also made an attempt to visit the distraught families of the victims on Monday, but could not do so due to unfavourable weather conditions. Among the ones who sustained injuries from the gruesome assault included Dhananjoy Yadav, Sushila Yadav, Aditya Yadav, Bijoy Yadav, Radhesyam Yadav and Mukti Yadav. All are undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospitals till the filing of this report.
