GUWAHATI: State Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Food and Civil Supplies (F&CS) Ranjeet Kumar Dass reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) under PHE and the work of F&CS in Kamrup district in the Office Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup today. The Minister expressed satisfaction over the progress of JJM in the district specially for achieving the target of supplying water to 10,000 families before two days ahead of the scheduled date i.e., September 30, 21.

He said that the scheme, a blessing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, should be carried out with this same spirit and dedication in coming days too to ensure pure drinking water supply to every family of the district.

He also urged the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kamrup to monitor closely the work of the NABARD funded water supply scheme in the fluoride prone area of Amingaon. Further he emphasised on creating public awareness to ensure sustainable and regular water supply and also to ensure forming of local water supply management committees as per norms for it.

In the review meeting attended by MLA, West Gauhati constituency Ramendra Narayan Kalita, DC Kailash Karthik N, District Development Commissioner Narsingh Bay, SDO (S) & Nodal Officer of JJM Moonmi Kalita, Tirtha Sharma Executive Engineer, Guwahati Division-II and other departmental officers of the district, the Minister also expressed importance over the steps taken to rectify the damage caused to the roads due to laying of water pipes. He also appreciated the digital monitoring system developed under the leadership of the DC to monitor the progress of various schemes under JJM and opined that such a system should be followed by other districts too.

Reviewing the progress of F&CS, he said that the remaining amount will be released within a week for the 'Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana' under the Department. Additional Deputy Commissioner and in charge of the department Pranab Dutta Goswami briefed the gathering about various issues of the department. Based on the suggestions made by MLA Kalita in regards of departmental Fair Price Shops under the department, the Minister directed to provide affordable shops in the mountainous region keeping in view the number of families in the hilly region.

He also instructed that a waiting list must be prepared for the applicants of fresh ration cards. The Minister also emphasised on establishing more efficient procurement system in the district by utilizing the advantage of price hike made by the government.

It may be mentioned that Minister Dass attended the review meeting as mentioned above on his way to Dhemaji adhering to the decision taken in the last Cabinet to take stock of the progress of various departments of two districts on the way to Cabinet meeting. After the review meeting, he also visited Gauripur LP School, Gauripur Anganbadi Centre, Changsari Covid Vaccination Centre, Bezera HS School, Bezera Primary School, Bezera Community Health Centre and Bezera Pipe Water Supply Scheme.

During his field visit, Minister Dass inaugurated a well-equipped pre-primary class room set up at Bezera Primary School. He appreciated for the effective implementation of the water supply scheme, maintaining proper hygiene of the health centre etc during his field visit.
