GUWAHATI: Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania has urged the non-Bodo people not to feel worry about the recent order passed Gauhati High Court to evict the non-tribals and other persons from tribal belts and blocks.

“A lot people are already afraid as they’ve been experiencing the issue of land since long. In the year 2003 the BTC Accord was done. And it was assured that the rights of land and property of the people who’ve been living there till that time will remain intact. For which tribal belt/block is just a name. In the year 2014 too they’ve planned to evict many people from there, but BTC witnessed such a political change in 2014 when we become the MP and they stopped the procedure there. In the time of election they promise of giving land pattas and some they says that the non-tribal will not get the land pattas,” Sarania said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

“I want to clarify that the interim order of the court is not the final one and we’ll appeal the court for some modification as the tribal belts are no more applicable. Besides this, we appeal the government for a permanent solution to this issue. We’re not asking the government to provide settlement or land rights to any illegal immigrants or foreigners. But we want that those indigenous shouldn’t be harassed who have been living in those areas since long,” said Sarania.

Sarania further said that BTC is going witness a major political change on April and if they come to power they’ll take necessary steps to permanently resolve the issue and the land rights of the indigenous will be ensured.

Sarania claimed that a process was already started in those areas to evict the non tribal and other people before the order of the court. “We warn them to not try any kind of tactics and to use it as a weapon for political purpose. We’ll not let such political conspiracy to happen.” Said Sarania. He said that we’ve always wanted the Bodo language to get its proper status. “All that we wanted is the Assamese language to get its actual status even in BTAD areas.
