NDRF Guwahati rescuers deployed in ghats for Chhatth Puja

GUWAHATI: Under the supervision of RS Gill, Commandant of 1st Battalion, NDRF Guwahati, five teams comprising 200 rescuers of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, including expert deep divers, have been deployed at Kachari Ghat, Kachumari Ghat, Pandu Port Ghat and Palashbari Ghat on the bank of the Brahmaputra in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts to meet any exigency during Chhath Puja.

NDRF teams have been equipped with 30 inflatable motorboats, 10 deep diving sets, 300 lifejackets, 100 lifebuoys, public address systems, search lights, oxygen cylinders, medical and other life-saving equipment deployed in different Ghats to carry out search and rescue operations. On several occasions, NDRF rescuers have rescued and provided medical aid to drowning devotees or those falling ill while performing Chhath Puja rituals, a press release said.
